What We Left Behind

1986

Wood, latex, burlap, and rice Paper. 14 x 20 x 20 feet.
Installation for the Flinn Gallery, Greenwich, CT

Post-apocolyptic scene of carcasses and crab-like creatures - all that might remain in a nuclear winter. Carefully joined shoji-screen forms covered in mulberry paper stand in for the towers of an abandoned urban landscape. Hand-crafted wooden boats hang over it all, evoking spaceships and a celestial Noah’s Ark departing on a journey to new places. Umbilical cords sustain life on this journey out into the cosmic future.
